Saving Ponds, One Goldfish At A Time

Welcome to our mission of removing and rehoming goldfish from Spokane ponds! Goldfish are very harmful when released or dumped into wild waters, such as ponds. Our goal is to educate the public on this issue, and remove as many of these fish as possible!

About Us

Our Cause

The Saffron Ponds Harmony Project was founded by local Girl Scouts Addilyn O'Doherty and Riley Drake, in order to raise awareness of the issue of Invasive Goldfish.

One of the main goals of the project is to make information on the impacts of goldfish, and correct care practices, available to the Spokane community.

Memorable Rescued Fish

Total Rescued Fish- 34

The Fish listed here are fish that were special in some way. Some may have been the first caught, or caught and named by children at events.

Saffron

Removed from Manito Pond in Spring 2024, Saffron was our first rescued goldfish. The project is named after him. Addi, one of our founders, fostered him for multiple years. Because Saffron was caught, she decide to research the issue further, which led to the project founding.

Albus

Removed from Manito Pond on the same day as Saffron, we caught Albus when he was about 2 weeks old. He went to his permanent home spring 2025, after being fostered for a year. Many of the photos on this website are of Albus, as her was in our care during the creation of the project.

Batman

Removed from Manito Pond during the spring 2025 Goldfish catch, Batman was the first fish caught at the event. His name was inspired by the black tips on his fins, and he was a fan favorite among children at the event.

Goldie

Named by the volunteer who caught him, Goldie was the largest goldfish the project has caught. He was caught at the Spring 2025 catch, and was approximately 8in long.
